I’m thinking the older Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing, should be at least in his late teens to early 20s. At least, that would be my preference, particularly to start the last trilogy in the movie series proposed in my Robin entry. On the other hand, they could establish that a few years have passed in between movies, so that Dick is now a few years older. In any case, we need to find someone who can at least pass for that age and looks like they could acquire the physique — not quite as tall or bulky as Bruce — needed for Nightwing’s gymnastic moves. As a guideline, “Who’s Who in the DC Universe” puts Dick/Nightwing at 5’10”, 175 lbs. I cast my net a little wider, looking at guys who are between 5’9″ and 6′ and born between 1988 and 1995 (ages 18-25).

A lot of people have thrown around Logan Lerman‘s name for Nightwing. He’s a definite maybe and just meets our height (5’9″) range, while fitting squarely in the age range, having just turned 22. Ian Somerhalder (5’9.25″,b.1978) has also been suggested, but he’s too old for Nightwing (and too short for Batman). Beyond that, I don’t really have any favorites. But, I have found several possibilities, so I’m just going to throw a few names/faces in the ring to see what you think. At least a couple or three should be familiar to you. In no particular order…

Connor Jessup in camo jacket

Connor Jessup

Connor Jessup
(5’11”,b.1994)
Claim to fame: Mostly for playing Maxim Knight’s brother (Ben Mason) on “Falling Skies”.

Patrick Schwarzenegger in dark jacket

Patrick Schwarzenegger

Patrick Schwarzenegger
(5’11”,b.1993)
Claim to fame: Well, the family name, mostly. He hasn’t done much acting, yet, but he has those Kennedy good looks from his mother’s side.

Freddie Highmore in gold shirt

Freddie Highmore

Freddie Highmore
(5’10”,b.1992)
Claim to fame: He’s been acting since he was little. He was in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), The Spiderwick Chronicles (2008), has done some voice work, and currently stars in “Bates Motel”.

Dylan O'Brien in dark jacket

Dylan O’Brien

Dylan O’Brien
(5’10”,b.1991)
Claim to fame: Hasn’t had a lot of roles, but he’s been co-starring as Stiles on the “Teen Wolf” series for a few years.

Alex Pettyfer shirtless

Alex Pettyfer

Alex Pettyfer
(5’11.25″,b.1990)
Claim to fame: Starred in Alex Rider: Operation Stormbreaker (2006) when he was a bit younger. More recently, he has starred in I Am Number Four (2011), Beastly (2011), and Magic Mike (2012). I also think he would make a good Terry McGinnis / Batman Beyond.

Nathan Parsons - black-n-white portfolio shot

Nathan Parsons

Nathan Parsons
(6′,b.1988)
Claim to fame: An Aussie who has been playing the character Ethan Lovett on “General Hospital” since 2009. He is also in the new “The Originals” series.

Tyler Hoechlin in dark jacket

Tyler Hoechlin

Tyler Hoechlin
(6′,b.1987)
Claim to fame: Guested on various TV shows over the past few years and appeared in a couple movies, but most notably he was in many episodes of “Seventh Heaven” and currently enjoys fame as Derek Hale on “Teen Wolf”. Notice that Hoechlin is slightly outside our age range, but not by much, and I hated to leave him off due to a few extra months. Not only would he make a good Dick/Nightwing, I think he’d also make a decent Bruce/Batman.

Well, that ought to give you enough contenders to consider. How’d I do, folks? Anybody strike your fancy for Nightwing? Or, do you have someone else in mind? Inquiring minds want to know….

P.S.  I suppose if I had to pick, it would be either Pettyfer or Parsons, who both have the right look & build, decent acting experience, and can still pass for early 20s.

P.P.S.  Re the Nightwing images at the top. Yes, I know there have been more costumes, but they’ve mostly been variations on the above looks. (Until “New 52” changed to a red bird on the chest, that is.) The second one is what I want to see in the movies.
